The Chen Taiji (Tai Chi) Straight Sword Form has 49 movements — a smooth, flowing form with powerful fajing and great sword-fighting applications. This DVD focuses on the movements of the form. In Chinese, the straight sword is also called a “Jian.”
On this DVD, Sifu Ken Gullette spends nearly two hours teaching details of each movement with an emphasis on internal body mechanics. Plus, you will go into a workshop and learn the Chen Straight Sword Form with other students.
Movements have colorful names, such as “Immortal Points the Way,” “Green Dragon Comes Out of the Water,” and “Part the Grass to Search for the Snake.” It is helpful to have a solid grounding in Taiji and internal body mechanics before learning this form.
The Chen Straight Sword can be performed slowly, but ideally it is performed at a vigorous pace, with smooth movements that are punctuated by bursts of power.
